Lou spends time with artists and, potentially, collaborating teams, diving deep into the world of the work they are about to make before they head into the rehearsal studio.
By engaging in a process of research and imagining, leaning into intuition at the same time as critically exploring the inherent shape, dramaturgies and resonance of ideas, Lou supports and facilitates a journey that will ensure artists and their collaborators are equipped - creatively, practically and strategically- to step into the studio and begin great work.
Before the performers entered the studio, Lou helped me refine my focus, ideas and who I wanted the production to be aimed at. It was one of the most grounded and peaceful processes I have been a part of - and this was to do with Lou being involved from the start.

Lou accompanies lead artists and their teams along the journey of a production process, ensuring they have the time, space and support for deep reflection, interrogation and expansion.
Not only is Lou critical ally and confidante to lead artists, Lou operates on behalf of the team, the show, the process that leads to it and the audience that deserves it to be good.
I was struck by Lou's grasp of group dynamics, her curiosity in and her understanding of contemporary performance and above all, her capacity to observe without intrusion or judgement.

Lou has worked across a wide range of projects, possessing a great depth of experience. Working with her was both a pleasure and inspiring.

When a show nears the final stages of creation, it doesn’t always hit every note the creators had hoped it would.
Working as a ‘show doctor’, Lou brings a fresh perspective along with a long-developed understanding of how dramaturgy and performance work.
Her pragmatic, efficient and creative approach to identifying and addressing issues and opportunities helps performance work become all it can be - shortly before, or even after, opening night.
Lou’s approach allowed us to delve deeper into the intentions of the work, and her attention to detail enabled the company to find stronger connections with each other during the tour.

Lou helps artists probe their practice, their processes, their output, and even their lives, outside of production cycles.
By taking time to examine their place in the world and really focus on what matters most in terms of the what, where, why, who with, who for and how - artists emerge with new energy and clarity, and an approach that is rewarding, authentic and sustainable.
Lou also works with artists in crisis, who have lost their way or are somehow blocked. Together they look for truth, energy and ways forward that may or may not be in the arts.
Working with Lou has been a process of growth and discovery for me in finding my own voice and in making clear choices for my self. Lou has not only been a dramaturg but a friend and a teacher.

It’s like therapy – but the focus is your art. I’ve been looking for this my whole career!
